That’s right. I said “photography mentor session.”
You’re either thinking, “Oh great, another photographer doing mentor sessions? Doesn’t anyone just SHOOT anymore?” or “Geez, does she EVER sleep?”
My response, no, I never sleep. And I’ve actually been mentoring other photographers and peers for years, just never thought to write about it! Months ago I created a {{somewhat}} hidden page on this blog about it just to have the info ready at hand instead of retyping it in emails every time new photographers contacted me asking for advice and private mentoring sessions. Rebecca found it right away!

One of the areas I get a lot of questions about is branding and marketing (I looooove marketing :). So when Becca asked about doing a mentor session on marketing a few months ago, I was stoked! I had so much information shooting out of my fingertips when I was typing, that a simple one page outline turned into three.
Just a couple of things we touched on, evaluated, or brainstormed on:
- branding (logo, collateral, etc)
- identifying Rebecca’s clients: current, past, and future
- types of advertising versus marketing, and which seem to attract the types of clients she loves
- finding her business’s place and honing her voice among other photographers here, including product choices, marketing copy, and price points
- budgeting for advertising
- evaluating each point of contact she has with her clients and what it does and doesn’t say about her business
You should really check her work out, she’s got some great stuff going on. Recently published in the esteemed PDN’s issue “Top Knots” Rebecca is one to watch, for sure! (Woot Woot Becca! I know I already said it, but that ROCKS, and so does your winning image!!!) She’s worked oh-so-hard on launching her new site, and it looks great! Thanks for chatting with me, it means loads to me that you trust my opinion and think I have good stuff to say. It was, of course, as always, great to hang out and talk business!!
