If you’ve ever met me in person and talked to me for more than five minutes, you know that I love to share, especially when I hear about great new nifty things or work with fabulous vendors.Enter stage right: Kelly Simants of Sweet Pea Events.Who she is: A super fun, sophisticated gal with a love of designing, planning, and coordinating. For years, she’s been putting together events, from weddings to parties, showers to non-profit, and even corporate shindigs. Now she’s decided to unleash her creativity full time. Kelly, former co-owner of her part-time company Turquoise Events, took a little hiatus from planning to meet and marry the man of her dreams. Now back from a couple of years in Portland (where she snagged her man at a swanky restaurant), I’m excited to be working with her again! What she does: Recent studies show that it takes anywhere from 8-10 hours PER WEEK to plan your own wedding. I recently polled my clients and they laughed at that- they think that they’re spending at LEAST that. Sweet Pea offers services ranging from complete event designing down to day-of coordination. Kelly says that she works with each client to determine the level of assistance they’d like, and then can customize her services to what they need. What she loves: Bringing her clients dreams and ideas to reality and seeing the event evolve from start to finish. Simply put, “I love being part of a celebratory event.”Favorite event planning moment: At University Presbyterian Church (which by the way is just about the largest church I’ve ever photographed in!), the groomsmen walked into the ceremony to the theme from Superman wearing sunglasses. And tuxes. Gotta love some comic relief….Favorite wedding venue: Her own! To keep it warm and intimate, Kelly had a destination wedding at the beautiful Miramonte Resort in Palm Springs.Where you can find her: You can read more about Kelly and see some of the weddings she’s designed at www.sweetpeaevents.net.
